My sister Dawn has always been the steady heart of our family. As the oldest, she was the one who made growing up feel safe and fun. She took me and our brother, Tommy, everywhere with her when we were younger — cheering us on, looking out for us, and shaping us into the people we are today simply by the way she loved us. And anyone who knows her knows her humor is larger than life. She can turn the darkest moment into something bearable with just one joke, one look, one perfectly-timed comment. That sense of humor is one of the brightest parts of who she is. She’s also an incredible mom to Anthony, Libby, and Zach. Those kids are strong, kind, and grounded because she raised them with patience, devotion, laughter, and love that never faltered. She comes from a long line of fighters, just like our nana and our mom. Strength runs deep in our family, and she has always carried that same spirit. Now she’s the one who needs help. She was recently diagnosed with stage IV multiple myeloma (bone cancer) and our world changed in an instant. The cancer has caused multiple fractures throughout her body and has spread into her skull, her spine, her pelvis, her sternum, her sacrum, and her arm. She also has a tumor pressing on her spinal cord. She’s begun treatments with chemotherapy & radiation, but transportation has become a roadblock to getting her to her weekly treatments. She is beginning a fight none of us ever imagined she would face. The treatments are aggressive, and the road ahead is long. Through all of this, her spirit is still there — the humor, the love, the strength, the fierceness. But she and her family are carrying a tremendous emotional and financial burden.
I’m asking for help on their behalf. Any donation — no matter the size — will go directly toward supporting her medical needs, helping her family stay afloat, and giving her the chance to focus on healing without the added weight of financial stress. She has spent her whole life taking care of everyone else. Now it’s our turn to lift her up. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading, sharing, and supporting her in any way you can. Your kindness means more than you’ll ever know.
She also started an Amazon Wish List for things she may need to help her fight this battle.
