Many of you know our mom, Marsha, and what an incredibly kind, selfless, and, nurturing, and caring person she is. She has always been the first to offer help to others, whether it’s a ride, a meal, or just a listening ear. Now, she’s the one who needs our help.
Last month, she was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. There are two aggressive invasive tumors that need to be removed. This coming week, she will undergo a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, followed by at least one other reconstructive surgery (possibly more) in a few months once she has healed from the initial operation. This is a long, difficult journey, both physically and emotionally.
Because of the surgery and recovery process, our mom will be unable to drive, lift heavy objects, or manage daily tasks on her own for quite some time. She’ll need help getting to and from doctor’s appointments, picking up groceries, and taking care of things around the house.
To make matters more difficult, she lost her job this past summer. While she continues to fight to regain her health, she isn’t eligible for unemployment benefits since she’s unable to work during recovery. Her expenses, including rent, will still need to be paid.
I’m doing everything I can to help, caring for her after surgery, coordinating appointments, and running errands, but I can’t be there 24/7 as I am a stay-at-home parent to a 2-year-old. The financial burden is more than we can manage alone.
We’re asking for help to cover:
• Transportation to and from medical appointments
• Groceries and household essentials
• Out-of-pocket medical and recovery expenses
• Temporary help during her recovery
Any amount, no matter how small, will make a huge difference in helping my mom focus on what’s most important: healing.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page means the world, too.
Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and love.
With gratitude,
Allie Horovitz Featherston and David Horovitz
