Hi, my name is Jennifer and I’m fundraising for my grandfather, Hugo. He is 96 years old and has always been the heart of our family. He has always been a hard working, caring and loving person. He always worked hard to raise his 6 children and has always helped those in need. He is a man who always calls his grandchildren, expresses his love towards us and prays for us all.

Recently, due to his diabetes, he has to urgently amputate his right leg to prevent his blood from becoming infected since his foot is becoming gangrenous. He is currently in a lot of pain, and the doctors are urging us to operate on him soon. Without this procedure, his health could worsen significantly. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any insurance coverage in Ecuador and the total cost of surgery and hospital care is $5000.00 USD. In addition, we need around $1000.00 USD for his treatment after the surgery and all medications. As a result, we need a total of $6000.00 USD to cover for his surgery and related medical care. With the exchange rate, we need around $8200.00 CAD to cover for this unforeseeable circumstance. Unfortunately, our family is unable to cover this expense alone.

The family has been covering all his medical expenses prior to the doctor’s decision to amputate him. We have been trying to save his foot by taking him to the doctor to receive treatment on his foot, but unfortunately his foot has become worse, and the doctor is urging him to amputate. Watching him struggle with his health has been heartbreaking for our family.
