Help Support My Dad’s Recovery After a Tragic Fall

I am reaching out to ask for your support for my dad, a hardworking and devoted family man, who recently suffered a devastating accident. At 64 years old, my dad has always been someone who takes pride in his work, learning multiple trades over the years. In November 2024, he took a leap of faith and started his own handyman and carpentry business. Unfortunately, while working, he fell from a 20-25 foot ladder, resulting in severe injuries. The doctors have made it clear that he will be unable to work for the next 4-5 months as he recovers, and this has thrown his family into a state of financial crisis.

His fall led to a week-long stay in the ICU, and while we are beyond grateful that he was discharged yesterday, his recovery journey is just beginning. His diagnoses include:

He currently has staples in his head and will require ongoing follow-ups with specialists, along with extensive rest and medical care. My dad lives with his wife and their 11-year-old son - my younger brother- and while I do not live with them, I have been doing everything I can to support them.

However, the financial burden on my dad and his family is overwhelming. Being self-employed means he does not have sick leave or disability benefits, and with months of recovery ahead, they need all the help they can get to cover medical expenses, household bills, and basic necessities.

A Family in Crisis:

My dad’s injury leaves him unable to work, and my stepmom, who also faces her own struggles with fibromyalgia, arthritis, and other health issues, is not able to contribute financially either. They have an 11-year-old son—my younger brother—who depends on them. My dad’s business was just starting to get off the ground, and now, with no income coming in, he's facing extreme financial crisis.

Bills are Piling Up:

The rent is due on the 1st of next month, and without any source of income, they have no way to pay for it. In addition to rent, they are also struggling to cover the basic needs for my brother, as well as medical expenses for my dad's recovery. This is a time-sensitive matter, and we apprecaite any help you can give.

The Burden of Recovery:

My dad’s road to recovery is uncertain, and he will need months of rest and medical care. While we are grateful that he is alive, the financial toll on our family is overwhelming. My stepmom’s health conditions also make it incredibly difficult for her to manage everything on her own. We’re doing everything we can, but we are now in a position where we need the help of our community.

A sus 64 años, mi padre siempre se ha enorgullecido de su trabajo, aprendiendo múltiples oficios a lo largo de los años. En noviembre de 2024, dio un salto de fe y abrió su propio negocio de mantenimiento y carpintería. Desafortunadamente, mientras trabajaba, se cayó de una escalera de 6 a 7,6 metros, lo que le provocó lesiones graves que lo dejarán incapacitado para trabajar durante los próximos 4 a 5 meses.

Dado que mi padre trabaja por cuenta propia, su incapacidad para trabajar ha supuesto una carga financiera considerable para nuestra familia. Mi padre vive con su esposa y su hijo de 11 años -mi hermanito- y aunque no vivo con ellos, he estado haciendo todo lo posible para apoyarlos.

Sin embargo, la carga financiera para mi padre y su familia es abrumadora. Al trabajar por cuenta propia, no tiene licencia por enfermedad ni prestaciones por discapacidad, y con meses de recuperación por delante, necesitan toda la ayuda posible para cubrir los gastos médicos, las facturas del hogar y las necesidades básicas.
