There are moments in life that completely stop you in your tracks.
Right now, our family is living one of those moments.
My 5-year-old nephew, Misha, was recently rushed to Shands Children's Hospital after what everyone initially thought was an eye infection. Within days, doctors discovered a mass behind his eye that had grown rapidly and was pressing against his optic nerve and surrounding bone.
Everything changed overnight.
Misha has already undergone surgery for a biopsy and is about to get a port placed in his chest to begin treatment. While doctors are still waiting on final pathology results, the oncology team believes he is facing a rare form of childhood cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma.
My brother and sisiter-in-law, Rodney and Yuliya have been thrown into a world of hospital rooms, specialists, procedures, and impossible conversations no family should ever have to have.
They've had to explain to Misha's three older brothers, Caden, Evan, and Roman, that their little brother is beginning a long fight ahead. Misha is expected to undergo approximately 40 weeks of chemotherapy, along with radiation treatments. He will spend weeks at a time traveling back and forth to the hospital and will likely be unable to attend kindergarten in person during treatment (which he was so excited about).
While Misha bravely faces what lies ahead, Rodney and Yuliya will be missing significant time from work to be by his side. Their focus right now shouldn't be on lost income, travel expenses, meals, gas, or how they're going to juggle caring for four boys while living between home and the hospital.
Their focus should be on Misha.
If you've ever met him, you know he's worth fighting for. He is loved beyond measure by his family, his brothers, and everyone who knows him. He is the silliest-most loving little boy, the cutest cousin (Lola and him are so close), and the best nephew I could ever ask for.
We are asking for help to ease the financial burden so Rodney and Yulia can spend their energy where it belongs—supporting their son through treatment and healing.
Most of all, we're asking for prayers.
Prayers for healing. Prayers for strength. Prayers for wisdom for Misha's medical team. Prayers for Rodney, Yulia, and his brothers as they walk through the hardest season of their lives.
Thank you for loving my family, sharing their story, and standing beside them during this fight.
Every prayer, share, and donation means more than words can express.
