Help Support Miracle in Her Fight With Cancer and Kidney Disease
I just spoke with my dear friend of 9 years, Miracle Matsumoto, and her story moved me deeply. I feel compelled to share it in the hope that we can come together to support her through this incredibly difficult time. As Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Let’s make that a reality for Miracle.
Miracle is one of those special people that are always volunteering to help out with her loving and creative spirit. She would never think to ask for help, but is always willing to give. I can only think of turning to our community for help as the goal is so large.
A Life Filled with Challenges—and Strength
Miracle’s name reflects the journey she has endured since birth. Despite a rough start as a premature baby, she grew into a strong and loving mother to two beautiful daughters, born in 2018 and 2021. However, both pregnancies came with serious complications—pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome—leading to a diagnosis of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD Stage 3) in 2022.
Through it all, Miracle remained determined, tackling her medical bills head-on while continuing to provide for her family. But in December 2023, life dealt her another painful challenge—she discovered a lump in her breast. On January 2, 2024, she received a devastating diagnosis: Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Stage 2.
Fighting Cancer While Managing Kidney Failure
Over the next year, Miracle endured:
● 6 rounds of TCHP chemotherapy
● Surgery to remove the lump
● 17 rounds of radiation
● 18 rounds of Herceptin immunotherapy infusions
During chemotherapy, her kidney function deteriorated from Stage 3 to End Renal Stage 5, meaning she now requires dialysis treatments to survive. The weekly cost of these treatments is astronomical for an average family.
To make matters even more difficult, Miracle struggled to work through 2024 while undergoing treatment. She did not qualify for disability benefits and relied solely on unpaid leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The financial strain has been overwhelming, especially with ongoing medical costs.
A Long Road Ahead—But We Can Make a Difference
Miracle will need a kidney transplant, but her cancer diagnosis has created a cruel five-year delay before she can even be placed on the transplant recipient list. That means dialysis must continue until she qualifies in 2029.
I struggled with setting a fundraising goal, but ultimately, I decided to aim high—sharing the reality of what has been billed and projecting the next couple years of dialysis expenses. It’s a staggering amount, but with many hands, we can lighten the load.
How You Can Help
Every donation, big or small, can provide Miracle with the financial relief she desperately needs. If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing her story can make a huge difference by reaching others who may be able to contribute.
Miracle is a kind and generous soul who deserves peace and healing with her family. Mahalo to all who consider donating and sharing her journey. Together, we can bring hope and relief to Miracle’s life.
