Help Support Mike’s Family

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

On behalf of Al, myself, and a plethora of other close friends of Mike, we are hoping to raise some much-needed funds to help support his family as he continues to go through some gruelling medical problems.

A bit of a back story:

For the last 10 years, Mike has experienced significant issues with his heart. He was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM), which often leads to heart failure and can cause sudden cardiac death in even the healthiest of people. There is no known way to prevent it.

Since his initial diagnosis, Mike’s health has taken a turn for the worse. Because of this, he ended up spending the better part of 2023 in the hospital, where he faced an uphill battle that included blood clots and bleeding into his liver. Then, earlier this year, Mike underwent open heart surgery to save his life, requiring months of recovery that prevented him being able to work and support his family. Most recently, Mike was hospitalized due to fluid in his lungs. It was during this time that his team of specialists informed him that the only viable course of treatment left is getting both a heart and liver transplant. To make matters worse, after being off work for a year while in and out of treatment, Mike’s health insurance or financial support have run out.

With no remaining income and the inability to work because of his health, all financial responsibilities are on Jenn's shoulders. Not only is she currently working 12-hour shifts and overtime to pay the bills, but she's also caring for their son, Matthew, full-time while Mike is in the hospital.

Those who know Mike, know his love for music. He was an integral part of Edmonton’s music scene, playing in numerous bands, including Zero Tolerance, The Boozehounds, and Broken Nose, before hosting several open stage events throughout the city. It was during this time that many of his deepest friendships were solidified, including with Al and his other Broken Nose bandmates, Ryan and Curtis. Now, it’s time to do what we can to help him get through these uncertain times.

Mike has already lived a life of heavy hits—from his father dying in a helicopter crash when he was only two, to losing his mom unexpectedly in a terrible accident in 1998, to having his son born very prematurely in 2011, causing serious health challenges that left him hospitalized for the first few months of his life. Still, through it all, he continues to persevere with a positive attitude and smile on his face, even completing his Journeyman’s Electrician’s ticket a year and a half ago. Though he remains optimistic, Mike is scared. He has no idea what the future holds for him and carries tremendous guilt for not being able to provide for his family—all while waiting for life-saving organ transplants. This GoFundMe has been created to bring Mike’s friends, loved ones, and the Edmonton music community together to help his family relieve some of the financial burdens during this incredibly difficult time.
