Our dear friends Michelle Kuhlman and Doug Norman are in need of our support!
Michelle has had a series of medical crises, beginning with a pulmonary embolism (blood clot to her lungs) on New Year's Eve that resulted in several days in the ICU. Recovery has been slow, and she's had significant setbacks from an infection known as C. diff, which she acquired while first hospitalized. She's had several hospitalizations, followed by inpatient rehab, and then home health visits. She's now in a skilled nursing/rehab facility, with the infection cured/under control but not able to care for herself.
Medicare is no longer paying for her care at the skilled nursing facility, and Medicare does not cover the in-home care she will need at home.
Doug has been doing the best he can to care for Michelle when she's home, which has been overwhelming. Unfortunately, the situation exacerbates his own medical problems. He's just home from a 2-day hospitalization for abnormally high blood sugars. Stress can play havoc for people with Type 1 diabetes.
We - our household (Leslie, Scott, Wendy, and Al) - are establishing this GoFundMe site to raise funds for Michelle's care. Our goal is to raise $3,500 per month for six months - $21,000 - to support her during what we hope is a significant recovery now that the infection is under control.
The money raised will go to a dedicated bank account to be used for:
- Payment for additional time in the skilled nursing facility and then
- A high-level home health aide 4 hours, 3 times a week
- Medical equipment and supplies
- Rental of a hospital bed
- A house cleaner twice a month
- Meals
We've all been a part of Doug and Michelle's lives, and they a part of ours. They need our help now, and we're asking this wonderful group of friends to consider what you can do and contribute as much as you can. Any amount is much appreciated!
