Help Support Megan Miller

I am writing this with an extremely heavy but hopeful heart. My sister Megan Miller is currently fighting for her life at a local hospital. On Wednesday April 21st she turned 31; unfortunately, she was also rushed to the emergency room because she was suffering from COVID, Pneumonia, and a blood clot in each lung. When she arrived at the hospital, her oxygen saturation was at 50% and she was close to death.
The amazing staff at the hospital did everything they could to help my sister. However, on Friday April 23rd her body couldn’t maintain enough oxygen, so the hospital did an emergency intubation and placed Megan into a drug induced coma, and put her on a ventilator. The ventilator is supplying 90% oxygen and she also had to be paralyzed to keep her from coughing. Megan has been in the ICU ever since, and we are told that this will be “an hour-by-hour process.”
My family still can’t see Megan because she is on a Covid floor and visitors aren’t allowed. We get updates about 3 times a day over the phone. While that alone is tragic and horrible, all of this happened right as my sister was working to overcome many difficulties, and was starting to really get her life on track.
During her 20's, Megan dealt with PTSD. Megan was helping a friend take care of her 2-year-old daughter, and that sweet child called my sister “Aunty Megan.” Tragically the sweet and innocent young girl was murdered by the mother’s new boyfriend. Megan gave all she had to support her friend, and because of this, she didn’t take care of herself very well. This caused crippling PTSD, and Megan started to struggle with normal everyday things.
However, Megan fought through, sought help, and pulled herself out of the hell she was living in. She got a job at Home Advisor and saved up enough money to buy a car. She continued to help our family through difficult times, and did so while working 50+ hours a week.
Megan wanted to move out on her own, so she began working as a leasing agent, saving every penny she could. When she had saved enough money, she moved into an apartment, though she didn’t even have a bed to put in it. Megan continued to work, and save, and through 2nd hand stores, and online purchases was finally starting to furnish her new apartment. However, just as Megan was settling in and making it on her own, the pipes burst in her apartment building.
In keeping with Megan’s caring nature, she helped other affected residents find new apartments in the complex before getting herself moved into another apartment. She continued to save money, work hard, and started to replace the things she lost. Unfortunately, tragedy doesn't care about our time; and even though Megan was trying to do everything right, she still ended up on life support.
We were told that Megan will probably be on a ventilator for 10-20 days, but that is just an estimate. If she pulls through, she will also have to stay in the ICU once she is off the ventilator, and then slowly move down to progressive care, regular hospital care, and then home care. The staff advised that she will need rehabilitation therapy, and will not be able to return to work for months.
Megan is a proud person, and my family is a proud family. However, I have been humbled many times in my life as a Police Officer, and I know that asking for help isn’t a weakness. My sister will need continued treatment and the bills will continue to pile up. If you are able, I am asking for whatever donation you can make to help my sister with the mounting bills and loss of income.
My sister was doing everything right; she was working hard, caring for others, and making herself better. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and please hug your friends and family members, and tell them you love them; because circumstances can change in a blink of an eye like they did for my family.
Thank you,
Jonathan Miller (loving brother)
