Whilst enjoying a short visit to Portugal between immunotherapy treatments in Cologne, Matt’s condition deteriorated significantly and very suddenly. He can no longer walk and can no longer speak without becoming exhausted.
There is no easy way to say this: Our friend Matt’s journey is coming to an end, in Portugal, a country he has loved and where he chose to spend a very happy last few weeks.
He is in palliative care at the Hospital da Luz, a private clinic where he can get the best possible care, surrounded by friends and family.
To help ease his family’s burden, we are asking for your help with the expenses.
We don’t know how much time he has left, but are working to raise AUD 30,000 to anticipate the cost of his hospital bill, plus expenses his family has incurred in coming here to be with him, and eventually the funeral and costs to bring Matt home to Australia.
Any amount left over will be donated to the institutions for which Matt has raised funds through his blog (cancercanwait.com).
