Help Support Matt Shaw’s Recovery Journey

On Tuesday 25 March, our much-loved friend Matt Shaw suffered a stroke that resulted in paralysis on the left side of his body. Tragically, his condition became life-threatening, and doctors had to perform emergency surgery to remove part of his skull to relieve swelling on his brain. Thanks to their quick action — and Matt’s own strength — he is now stable, but he faces a long and difficult road to recovery.

Throughout this incredibly tough time, Matt’s Wife Kat has been by his side every step of the way. She’s been his advocate, his carer, and his constant source of strength — travelling back and forth to the hospital every day, making sure he receives the care he needs and deserves.

Now, as Matt’s condition slowly improves, they are beginning to prepare for the next step: coming home. But that next step brings its own set of challenges. Their home will need several critical adaptations — including wheelchair access, stair assistance, and other essential modifications — to make it a safe and supportive space for Matt’s recovery as well as seek further physiotherapy to with his rehabilitation.

Matt and Kat have always been the kind of people who show up for others — the most thoughtful, kind-hearted friends anyone could wish for. We want to show up for them now. That’s why we’ve created this fundraiser: to help cover the cost of home modifications, specialist equipment, and anything else they need to make Matt’s rehabilitation as smooth and supported as possible.
