Hi, my name is Kiah and I am fundraising for my grandmother Mary Ahearn to support the costs of cancer care, diagnostic testing and treatments.
Mary, my Gram, is 64 years young and has been a nurse for most of her life. She works currently at Cambridge Hosptial near Boston and has worked through the Covid pandemic as a Covid care nurse. She has cared for some of the sickest patients and held many hands while the ones who didn’t make it passed away.
Gram got sick earlier this week on Monday, we thought maybe it was the flu but we quickly learned it was more devastating than we could have ever thought. She got diagnosed with cancer of the lung that has spread throughout her body to her kidneys, spine and lymph nodes. She is in an excruciating amount of pain and is going through extensive testing to determine what our options are for treatment.
My Gram is one of the most kindhearted, caring and loving people I know. Those words fail to emphasize her warmth and compassion for others. She has spent her life caring for those in need. She has always been my best friend.
This last June my Grandmother’s best friend and sister in law passed away quickly from pancreatic cancer. She and our family have been grieving this loss since. Gram cared for her best friend while she was struggling through the diagnoses of pancreatic cancer up until the very end. She is now facing her own cancer diagnoses.
My Grampy, Bernie, her husband of over 40 years has been by her side since this diagnoses arrived. Just having lost his sister to cancer this diagnoses has been overwhelmingly hard on him. He is crushed and trying to see hope and light when it feels like we are surrounded by darkness. We are hoping to receive support for him so he doesn’t have to think about anything other than supporting and loving his wife he has loved since the age of 15. We don’t want him to have to worry about costs or bills related to this tragic diagnoses.
Please help us support this beautiful woman who has spent her life supporting and caring for others.
Thank you so much from our entire family. Anything helps.
