On the evening of Good Friday my brother was leaving his apartment to run errands. Upon getting to his car, a tenant in the building engaged in a verbal dispute with Marc (thankfully all on video). My brother proceeded to go on with his evening as this sort of interaction is not uncommon - the apartment staff have had problems with this individual in the past.

Unfortunately, things took a drastic turn, as at 5am six police officers arrived at my brother's door and informed him he was being charged with uttering death threats and was being taken into custody. Marc, although very confused, went with the officers, complying fully with all requests.

As if that wasn't enough, on the drive to the police station the officers pulled the car over and questioned my brother about a firearm (Marc is a legal fire arm owner. He took the course and wrote the test. He follows all gun safety laws). At this point, my brother began to piece together what was happening - and who may have initiated the entire thing.

Marc spent over 13 hours locked in a jail cell with very little information provided to him. The only information he did receive is absolutely shocking, heartbreaking, and life altering. Due to this apartment tenants false accusations, my brother now faces Four Class A felony charges and two misdemeanor charges.

To make matters worse, Marc had previously been wrongfully let go from his job as a building superintendent of the apartment complex. That left him without stable income as it was, and now he faces an even more complex financial situation with the upcoming legal battle of proving his innocence. Marc does tattoo, and will be tattooing as much as possible to help make ends meet but it won't be enough to cover rent, basic expenses, care for his two cats and mounting legal fees.

There are no words to explain how hard it is to watch someone you love have their entire life flipped upside down and potentially ruined due to another person's false claims. We cannot speak too much more on the specifics of the case however my brother wants to be very clear that he has no issues with the officers involved in his arrest or the staff at the jail—they treated him respectfully given the circumstances.

We are not a family to beg or reach out our hands, but at this time we are asking for all the help we can get.

If I could offer any advice to others, it would be this: invest in security cameras for your home. You never know when you might need footage to protect yourself—not to incriminate someone else, but to defend your own innocence. Also, always have your firearms license on hand if you’re a legal holder. I followed all the rules and went through the proper channels, yet it only took one fabricated story to turn my life upside down.
