Help Support Make Music Portland 2022
Donation protected
We bounced back after a rough 2020 and enjoyed an amazing 2021 celebration. We are looking forward to an even bigger and better 2022 event and hope you can help us make that happen.
Make Music Day has been established as a celebration across the United States to take place on June 21st, the summer solstice. This event has grown out of the international movement Fête de la Musique, after enormous success in France and abroad. The U.S. has many notable and well-established branches of Make Music to coordinate the day-long free celebration, which encourages all genres, abilities, and ages of music amateurs and professionals to fill the streets with sounds and community. When Portland, Maine joined the movement in 2013, there were roughly 8 other North American cities participating; this past year, more than 80 North American cities hosted Make Music Day celebrations.
Make Music Portland’s goal is to provide an open, inclusive opportunity for Maine musicians to showcase their talents, and for non-musicians to engage in musical learning opportunities, all while celebrating our community. One of the best parts about the celebration is that participation is open to anyone and everyone; whether you make music, listen to music, or just enjoy it.
While we are a registered nonprofit, we currently do not hold 501(c)(3) certification which makes it challenging to receiving sponsorships and grants. As we navigate reapplying for tax exemption, we rely on community donations to help fund the event.
Over the last 9 years we have tried to keep finances to a minimum; homemade shirts and signs, paying out of our own pockets, sourcing free materials, etc. but we know that the only way to grow this event even more is by investing in it. We hope that in the next year we can create a cohesive plan for future growth.
Below is a breakdown of our basic budget that covers the very minimum of expenses:
Make Music Alliance Membership: $325
City Park/Sound Permits: $850
Event Insurance: $500
Annual Filing Fee (keeps us registered as an NPO): $150
Marketing/Branding: $500
Other Supplies (snacks/water for volunteers, etc): $250
Event Contingency (20%): $465
TOTAL: $2,790.00
Any support whether financial or simply sharing our social media posts, is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
The MMP Team
