Help support Maile Balai battle multiple health illnesses

Aloha everyone! My name is Anuhea Brown and I’m hoping to share with you the story and health struggle my sister Maile Balai is going through. The long journey of the uncertainties and “mystery diagnosis” that she keeps hearing from medical professionals. For those of you who know my sister, you all know that she’s always been a hard worker, always working and always helping out everyone whenever she can. She has always been the sole provider for herself and her fur babies Mina and Kahakai. But all of that came to a halt the day she started bleeding everytime she’d go to the bathroom. The first diagnosis she was told was from the ER doctors at Wilcox saying that she had internal hemorrhoids. Having the feeling that it wasn’t internal hemorrhoids, my sister went to KVMH for a second opinion, after multiple colonoscopies she receives the results. Colon cancer, with special thanks to Dr. Biuk-Aghai who was able to diagnose it and treat it by removing the cancer polyps. Next my sister started experiencing high blood pressure and heart irregularities, so she went to see Dr. So (Cardiologist). After doing tests, EKG and being placed on a heart monitor for a few weeks, she’s then told that her heart isn’t doing well and not performing as it should be so she then undergoes surgery to place a heart pacemaker. But it doesn’t stop there, because my sister was still experiencing weight loss, hair loss, speech slurs, black out episodes and no energy. She finally gained the strength and went back to the doctors again but this time to get a full check up to see if something else was going on. After many tests, MRI’s, CT scans, bloodwork and EKG’s. She’s diagnosed with Ménière’s disease, Fibromyalgia, breast cancer, syncope, narcolepsy, paresthesia and cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Can you only imagine what she was going through, first walking into the hospital not knowing whats wrong, but coming out of the hospital with a full list of health issues, medications, and follow up appointments, all while still trying to live a normal and private life…but then again, this is my sisters life. The most recent incident my sister had was about a week ago. She was at home with my mom and her 2 dogs when she had a stroke and collapsed. It was then that her dog Kahakai somehow managed to nuzzle open the kennel gate, that’s when my mom saw that my sister had collapsed. My mom brought my sister to the hospital, after doing a brain MRI, CT scan and bloodwork, we found out that my sister experienced a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) during her stroke. During her hospitalization my sister had done an MRI with contrast. The next day my sister’s face began swelling, it swelled so much till her left eye couldn’t even open. After seeing the doctor for the swelling, she was told that she experienced an allergic reaction to the MRI contrast known as Central serous chorioretinopathy of the left eye and that if it wasn’t caught and treated with antibiotics she would have lost her left eye and vision. This has forever been a long, hard journey that my sister has to continuously endure. Not being able to work, she strongly suffers with many medical bills on top of her household bills. My sister is only 39 years old and to be going through all of this health issues is insane. Thank you all who has taken the time to read this, to understand what my sister is going through and how hard it is for her as she continues to seek God’s plan for her. Thank you to everyone for all of your support and the continuous prayers we have received and continue to receive. Mahalo for now and we’ll keep everyone posted with new updates as they come. Thank you again for all who are able to help and contribute to this cause and to help my sister Maile.
