Hello everyone,

We want to start by saying a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you who has walked alongside us — through your donations, support, prayers, kind words, ideas, and most of all, your love. We truly couldn’t have come this far without you.

Luz May has now been home in Fuerteventura for just over 10 months, and in that time, she’s made remarkable progress. After needing mechanical ventilation since birth, she is now completely off it! What started as only three nights a week ended with the most beautiful gift — a call the day before her second birthday, telling us she no longer needed it at all.

We’ve also reduced some of her medications, started introducing puréed foods via her g-tube, and in June, she began crawling! Luz May continues with regular physio and occupational therapy, and will soon begin working with a speech therapist to explore communication options. She’s thriving — and we are so proud of her.

But while Luz May is making big strides, our little family is struggling.

Her care is full-time, which means I’ve been unable to work. Many people don’t know that after undergoing surgery for a broken leg in Gran Canaria, John then broke both elbows here in Fuerteventura. The injury caused compartment syndrome and required another surgery. He now faces a crucial appointment later this month to determine whether more surgery is needed.

We’ve made it this far thanks to God, the generosity of others, and the incredible support from our families — but the truth is, we’re falling behind. We can no longer cover rent, and navigating the support system here has been slow, unclear, and incredibly difficult. While we desperately wish one of us could return to work, it’s just not possible in our current situation.

So, we’re reaching out — humbly and honestly — to ask for your help. Any support, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. Your kindness will help us care for Luz May, keep our home, and continue giving her the support she needs to grow and thrive.

Hola a todos, 

 Queremos empezar agradeciendo de corazón a todos y cada uno de los que nos han acompañado con sus donaciones, apoyo, oraciones, palabras amables, ideas y, sobre todo, su cariño. Sin ustedes, no habríamos llegado tan lejos. 

Luz May lleva poco más de 10 meses en su casa en Fuerteventura, y en ese tiempo ha progresado notablemente. Tras necesitar ventilación mecánica desde que nació, ya no la necesita por completo! Lo que empezó con solo tres noches a la semana terminó con el regalo más bonito: una llamada el día antes de su segundo cumpleaños, donde nos dijeron que ya no la necesitaba. 

También hemos reducido algunos de sus medicamentos, hemos empezado a introducir purés por sonda gástrica y, en junio, empezó a gatear! Luz May continúa con fisioterapia y terapia ocupacional regulares, y pronto empezará a trabajar con un logopeda para explorar opciones de comunicación. Está progresando y estamos muy orgullosos de ella.

Pero mientras Luz May avanza a pasos agigantados, nuestra pequeña familia está pasando apuros. Su cuidado es a tiempo completo, lo que significa que no he podido trabajar.

Mucha gente desconoce que, tras operarse de una fractura de pierna en Gran Canaria, John se fracturó ambos codos aquí en Fuerteventura. La lesión le provocó síndrome compartimental y requirió otra cirugía. Ahora tiene una cita crucial a finales de este mes para determinar si necesita otra cirugía.

Hemos llegado hasta aquí gracias a Dios, a la generosidad de los demás y al increíble apoyo de nuestras familias, pero la verdad es que nos estamos quedando atrás. Ya no podemos pagar el alquiler, y gestionar el sistema de apoyo aquí ha sido lento, confuso e increíblemente difícil. Aunque deseamos desesperadamente que alguno de nosotros pudiera volver a trabajar, simplemente no es posible en nuestra situación actual.

Por eso, les pedimos su ayuda, con humildad y honestidad. Cualquier ayuda, por pequeña que sea, significaría muchísimo para nosotros. Su generosidad nos ayudará a cuidar de Luz May, a conservar nuestro hogar y a seguir brindándole el apoyo que necesita para crecer y prosperar.
