Help Support Luna's Treatment

Around 7pm on July 2, I arrived at my house to find my cat Luna lying on the bed, meowing as if she was in pain. She often greets me at the door, but this day she had no energy, seemed lethargic, and she looked like she had been eating litter (a sign that her iron levels were low and she was trying to remedy this). After running to the nearest emergency vet, we were told that she was anemic: both her red blood cells and her platelets were dangerously low, and she would need a blood transfusion. The vet we were at did a great job trying to identify the problem, but unfortunately, they didn't have any cat blood, so we had to run to another, more expensive emergency vet that had type A cat blood. There, they performed a blood transfusion, likely saving her life.

The transfusion worked and while Luna is stable for now, we are now in the process of figuring out why she was anemic in the first place. Although it could be an autoimmune or kidney disease, the vets suspects that the likeliest reason is cancer. Either way, she has had to remain hospitalized while they help her recover and identify the issue. This has led to around $12,000 in costs: $846.60 at the first clinic, $325 of the initial visit at the second clinic, and $10,400 of the care she is now receiving.

As some of you may know, Lunibear is my family. She has been my partner for 10 years, from Philadelphia to Puerto Rico to New York. It was just not an option to put her to sleep. I am asking for help in covering these and future costs. Anything helps, especially considering that if it is cancer, this means the start of chemotherapy and/or surgical intervention, and the costs will continue to increase.
