Luna’s Surgery and Recovery from TPLO
Erin’s beloved companion has torn her cruciate ligament (still unclear how, assumed maybe jumping on and off the couch to get the best window view from the house) and is needing an CCL repair surgery called Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) to regain function of her rear leg and knee. Her surgery estimate is $7000-$9000 and though they have insurance, it would cover $3000 at the most if accepted. She will also be needing physical therapy to rebuild the lost muscle mass from lameness to bring her back to her baseline of enjoying long walks, trail runs, and playtime that her vet believes will be possible post-recovery given her present health.
We feel incredibly grateful to have this option of treatment to regain Luna’s mobility after a period of uncertainty for what this unexpected injury would mean for her still-spicy spirit and desire to keep getting outside whenever possible.
That said, truly any contribution is helpful, and Erin may also be needing support at home during the ten weeks of recovery that follow if that’s something you would like to offer.
Erin will be sharing updates on Luna’s surgery and recovery here. If you’d like to share photos you may have of Luna, please do! They will be a welcomed reminder of what’s on the other end of this.
