Help Support Local Hero Jack in his Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Hailey and I am fundraising on behalf of North Van resident and arborist Jack Louineau.
On Sunday, May 25th a kitty in the British Properties went missing. The family who lost their beloved cat had an AirTag on it. They were able to track it to a street a few blocks away. It had run up a tree most likely in fear from local wildlife. The family had tried to get their cat down, had contacted the WVFD and SPCA numerous times either not hearing back, or being told they can't help them. They would go to their cat every day trying to figure out what to do. I live across the street from where the poor little kitty was tree'd and my husband was doing his best to help them. On Tuesday evening, it had now been over 3 days of no food and water. Concern was mounting that the kitty wasn't going to make it through the night. Another call was placed to the WVFD by myself to see if there was anything they could do to help us. They again declined. My husband contacted local arborists to see if anyone was available in the next day to help. That is where Jack came in.
Jack arrived on Tuesday evening within 20 minutes of being called ready to climb and save this poor kitty's life. He did not want to wait until daylight as he had the same concerns that the poor cat wouldn't make it through another night. He climbed the tree successfully and got to where the cat was (approximately 70 feet in the air). When he leaned back, he free fell from the tree. It is a miracle he survived. He has a broken neck and 3 broken vertebrae. He is heading in for surgery this evening (Wednesday, May 28th). We are so glad that he is not paralyzed and has movement in his legs and arms. The legend that Jack is, while in the hospital he contacted his friend (also an arborist) concerned about the cats well being and had him and a crew arrive on scene the very next morning to successfully rescue the cat and return it to it's family.
Needless to say, Jack is going to be in recovery for months, unable to work. Vancouver is a very expensive place to live and we hope our community can band together and show our gratitude for this local hero and help raise funds to cover all of his costs for the future months so he can recover stress free.
Thank you so much for your time reading this, every donation no matter the size is hugely appreciated. If you cannot donate - then please share and help spread the word!
