9/24/2023 Update: Lisa and Donn, both, could use our support now more than ever!

Along with Lisa’s recent cancer diagnosis, Donn was recently involved in an accident that snapped his thigh muscle. Unfortunately, Donn’s recovery required surgery this past Tuesday and he will not be able to drive or physically take care of Lisa during the foreseeable future. Most likely for about six months.

Lisa and her medical team have determined that the best plan of attack is to complete 28 consecutive sessions of radiation and chemotherapy, targeting Lisa’s pelvic area, the area where one mass was found and 2 lymph nodes have been determined to be cancerous. The hope is that by targeting this specific area with very intensive treatment, the cancer will not progress or spread. Lisa started chemo last Monday and begins radiation this week.

A spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Lisa Vacek has been scheduled for Sunday, October 29th at the Firefighter’s Hall on 60th & Grover St. from 12:00-5:30. All donations will be set aside to help pay for medical expenses. We're hopeful that this event will allow for all of Lisa and Donn's friends, family, Menard's and Douglas County family to show them support!

Original Post: Lisa Vacek (Mathouser) has recently been diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma, a type of cancer that develops in the glands that line your organs. Two malignant tumors were found in Lisa's colon and rectum and a third behind her stomach.

Lisa will celebrate her 50th birthday later this year! She is a mother of three children, Donn Jr., Lauryn and Samantha, and has been married to Donn Vacek for 29 years. Lisa is loved by so many family and friends and her beloved Menards customers and coworkers.

We are thankful for the health concerns that Lisa was experiencing, which forced her to go to the doctor to get these "small scares" checked out. Our hope is that early detection will result in an early stage diagnosis. We believe that God will help Lisa and her family through these trying times but can also use your help and prayers for Lisa and her family during these difficult times ahead.
