Help Support Lib’s Medical & Living Expenses
Donation protected
Elizabeth Rives Koury - born in Goldston, North Carolina. Many know her as the all star women’s basketball player, but most know her as Mama, Granny, GiGi or Aunt Lib.
Naturally she is the matriarch of the family; She cares for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many other members of her family. She has always been supportive in any way she can, now is the time for us to show her ours.
In March - Lib was admitted into New Hanover Regional Medical Center for Altered Mental Status / TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) - These are brief stroke-like symptom that resolve within minutes or hours, yet still requires immediate medical attention to distinguish from an actual stroke - these may be a warning sign of a future stroke. Her first admission to NHRMC lasted 4 days.
Shortly after her first discharge she was re-admitted to NHRMC only 4 days later for community acquired pneumonia. At this visit, we learned of her new onset of Congestive Heart Failure. Congestive Heart Failure is a chronic condition in which the heart does not pump blood as well as it should.
Once discharged, there were 2 choices her family could make:
1) For Elizabeth to go to rehab during the COVID-19 pandemic, at 85 with a compromised immune system, or
2) For Marvel, her daughter, to rehab herself as a licensed RN/BSN Many would say the choice was clear - Elizabeth had a total rehab time of 45 days, this totally wiping out any PTO/Sick Time that Marvel had previously incurred. Family, friends and employers showed their support with phone calls, gifts and much needed quality time.
Fast forward to June, Elizabeth contracted COVID-19. She refused to go to the hospital so she could be in the comfort of her home. After a few days of her fever/chills she became extremely weak, not being able to stand or walk and hardly eating. She has officially been admitted into Hospice.
As of today, she has defeated COVID-19, only to fight the aftermath.
Please show your support for our family if you can.
We plan to spend any donations on: Medical bills e.g. hospice, any previous hospital bills, medication, medically needed items (diapers, mouth swipes, wipes, etc), and living expenses e.g. house payment.
