On Christmas Day, our son Liam told my wife and me that he wanted to live with us full time due to several situations that made him uncomfortable. We immediately took the appropriate legal steps, including filing for emergency custody, and we currently have temporary custody of him. While we are incredibly grateful that Liam is now safe with us, the impact on our family has been overwhelming.
Liam remains enrolled in his current school, which requires me to drive him from Huntsville to Muscle Shoals five days a week — about 80 miles each way. Our days begin before sunrise, and the constant travel has made it impossible for me to maintain traditional employment or run my small business effectively. Gas alone averages around $30 per day, and the wear on our only vehicle has already led to one breakdown.
Liam is doing well with us and continues to work hard in school. However, the daily travel and long hours on the road are physically exhausting for him and for our family. My wife works from home full time and is doing everything she can, but between lost income, transportation costs, and mounting legal fees now in the thousands, we are stretched beyond what we can manage alone.
We are exhausted, uncertain about the future, and focused on one thing above all else: making sure Liam feels safe, supported, and able to thrive.
If you are able to help in any way, all funds raised will go directly toward legal expenses related to Liam’s custody case. Even sharing this fundraiser means more to our family than we can express.
Thank you for supporting our son and our family during this incredibly difficult time.
