Hi, my name is Katy, I’m the proud Auntie of Lewis Mooney.
Let me tell you a bit about him. Lewis is your typical 8 year old boys, boy. He loves football, video games and all thing music. He is confident, cheeky and has a huge personality !
Lewis was born with Golden har syndrome a rare condition that can cause incomplete development of bones and problems with the heart, kidneys, lungs and nervous system.
Lewis is profoundly deaf and has a bone anchored hearing aid (BAHA) to enable him to hear.
Although Lewis has spent a great deal of time in and out of hospital, he doesn’t let it get him down. He faces all challenges head on and never feels sorry for himself.
Over the next 12 months Lewis will undergo his most significant surgery yet. Currently Lewis has difficulties with breathing, problems eating and has pain and discomfort. As he gets older Lewis is becoming increasingly aware that he looks different to others, which makes him anxious and is having an effect on his mental health.
It’s a young age to be having this surgery, however the reconstruction of his jaw and cheek bones on the left hand side of his face will enable him to smile even brighter.
It is really hard to put into words how hard this is going to be for Lewis and his family. For Lewis this means time away from everything he loves, home, family, friends, school, football. Plus, the impact the recovery will have on this 8 year old!
For Steve and Amy (mum & dad) this means time away from Phoebe and Imogen, Lewis’ sisters. Time off work, travel and accommodation costs, a huge financial burden which they have had to shoulder themselves for the last 8 years of hospital trips with Lewis.
For Phoebe and Imogen it will be missing precious time from their family.
All money raised here or from fundraising events will go straight to support them as a family including travel, accommodation, food giving them financial freedom to enable them to take the time necessary to surround Lewis with the love and attention that he needs and deserves. If we are fortunate enough maybe we can raise enough to give this amazing little boy a treat to remember when he is feeling up to it.
