Hi! I’m Kelsey. Granddaughter of Arthur, Hughes.
On September 24, 2025, our family lost a father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and dear friend.
My grandfather significantly suffered a decline in his health over the last five years. My grandmother passed away in 2020 after a long fought battle with lung cancer. This drastically impacted my grandfathers health and overall wellbeing. Once she passed away, my grandfather moved in with his son for a short time but his care needs were far greater than he was equipped to manage. My mom stepped in to be his care taker and he moved in with her. Over the last five years my grandfather fought a long battle with Cancer, Parkinson's & Dementia. If you know anything about any of these diseases, you know how tough this was. Over the last six months he became completely dependent on my mom for bathing, toileting, feeding, administration of medication and so much more. It was like she had another young child. My mom went through many of these same experiences five years ago when she was the caretaker of my grandmother, until she passed. Over the last two months my grandfather was in palliative care and then transferred to hospice. The care needs were slightly lifted off of my mom’s shoulders but the extreme financial needs took over. My mom depleted her savings paying for hospice care for my grandfather. The care he received while in hospice was phenomenal and we’re eternally grateful for every single nurse/ doctor on his team.
Now that he’s passed, the next step of financial hardship has kicked in, the cost of funeral services. My grandfather wished to be cremated just as my grandmother was. They wanted to be together forever. To honor their wishes we’re having a joint celebration of life service for family and friends to attend.
My mom has dedicated the last seven years of her life being the care taker for her mother and father while still managing to work six days a week to stay afloat with her own expenses, plus theirs. She’s a proud woman with a motto of “If I can’t work for it or earn it, I don’t deserve it”. The kind of woman who would give you the shirt off her back to keep you warm. She’s not the type of woman to ever ask for help or accept a hand out, she’s the kind of woman who offers the help and hand outs to anyone in need. She will not ask for help to cover funeral expenses and will work her self to death to try and make it work. So I’m asking for the community’s help to cover funeral expenses and decrease the burden on my mom. To allow her to grieve properly without worrying how she’s going to afford the services.
If you feel inclined to help, all donations are so deeply appreciated, from the bottom of my heart. You can donate here or directly to the funeral home. If you’re not in the position to donate, all shares are greatly appreciated.
Checks can be mailed directly to the funeral home with the name Arthur Hughes in the memo.
