Help Support Lauri's Brain Surgery Recovery
Donation protected
I'm Gabbi, Lauri's daughter, and I am fundraising in hopes of helping support expenses as we navigate recovery from this major surgery for my mom. On Tuesday, 3/22/2022 she was taken to the emergency room after experiencing significant tremors in her left leg and left arm. They triaged her thinking it was a stroke. Fortunately, it wasn't. However, they did a CT scan, and the result was that there was an area on the right side of the brain that was of concern. A few hours later, they did an MRI, which confirmed that she had a mass on her brain (luckily not IN the brain). They then did a full body CT to rule out any other masses in the body, and thankfully they didn't find any. After speaking to the neurosurgeon Wednesday, he decided it was best to do surgery to remove the tumor ASAP based on its location, and it was easy to access. Mom went in for surgery the morning of 3/24 at 10 am, which took about 4 hours. The surgery was a success, they were able to get the whole tumor with minimal bleeding, but unfortunately she is currently not able to move her left leg at all. Her left arm was barely moving at first, but just in the last few days she has gained quite a range of motion back in the arm. She has been getting Neuro checks regularly throughout each day to check the mobility of limbs/strength in hands and feet. The doctors that have been checking her have reassured us that there is of course still swelling from the surgery, and she is likely to regain function in her left leg once the swelling goes down and she gets to the point of further recovery. We do not know how long this will take. Luckily, she has feeling and tingling sensation in the leg/feet/toes, so that is a good sign. We have a very long road ahead including tons of PT and caring for her at home. Everything else in terms of vitals and healing of the incision site are looking good. Mom will be staying with my husband Zach and I as she recovers and I will be her primary caretaker. Unsure of how much I will be able to work during this time and how much of the medical bills her insurance will cover, we decided to set up a gofundme account to help with any expenses that may arise over the coming months. Any and all support has been and will be so very appreciated during this time, and we cannot thank you all enough. Tough times, but mom is tougher. I know she will pull through and gain her leg function back.
With love & appreciation,
Gabbi, Lauri, Mario, and the rest of our family.
