Help Support Lauren and Equip Youth Teams with AEDs

My name is Amaya and I’m an assistant coach on Boise Blast Bock holding this fundraiser on behalf of our beloved player, Lauren.

A life changing event for the community and the Idaho softball community occurred on Friday July 19th. Tragedy struck the Boise Blast family after a great hit and a routine play. Lauren Wontorcik, being the super athletic and gifted team player she is, was able transition the hit into a home run. Lauren’s routine safe, non-contact, slide into home plate turned non-routine impacting Lauren's life forever. During the slide, Lauren lost consciousness and collapsed at home plate. What was an exciting, celebratory moment turned into a nightmare in an instant. Lauren suffered cardiac arrest. Acting quickly, Lauren's stepdad and coach performed life saving measures of CPR for a number of minutes, until the McCall emergency services arrived onsite with an AED. The quick reaction, excellent training, and seamless teamwork of all involved were successful in saving her life.

By the grace of God, and the prompt action of first responders, Lauren was transported by ambulance to the McCall St Luke's hospital. The emergency room staff at the hospital stabilized Lauren so she could be airlifted to Boise to receive top tier pediatric heart treatment, monitoring, and testing from St Luke's in Boise. We are fortunate and thankful that Lauren is with us today though there is still no answer for what occurred or what the future is for Lauren.

We are asking the community to help raise funds not only relieve financial stress for the family while they recover and heal from this trauma, but also to allow this event to be positive force of change on how we equipment our youth teams. All funds collected will go to offset medical bills for the family and towards supplying teams and fields with AED devices and training as you truly never know when tragedy will strike.
