Help Support Kylo's bilateral ACL Surgery

Donation protected
Thank you for being here! I'm Renn Story Pruitt, Kylo's human. He's been my companion since he was 14 weeks old and he's almost 5 years old now. His family has grown in the last few years to include my partner, Luca and our kids, Aleister and Miah.

We're asking for support because he recently tore his ACL on his right knee and has been on strict rest to see if it would heal on its own or need surgery. Despite our family's dedicated efforts to keep him safe, in a split second he tried to jump onto the bed and tore his left ACL within a week and a half of the right one.

We are heartbroken for him.

There was a high chance of the second one tearing due to overuse from compensation, but we didn't think it'd happen right away and hoped we could hold off on surgery to better financially prepare for it's high cost. With both knees compromised, we can't wait.

We don't have pet insurance, a mistake I will never make again. We could really use any and all financial support you can offer, big or small.

Here's a rundown of costs we're looking at and why we're asking for $10,000:

Initial consult with X-rays is about $200

The surgery (bilateral TPLO) is estimated to be between $6000 and $8000 which thankfully includes some of the follow up care. We'll know the actual total after the surgery and I'll be sure to include the specific numbers once I have them.

He will also most likely need professional physical rehab to help his body learn his new anatomy and rebuild his muscles to ensure his knees are fully supported and stable. I haven't received any estimates about this yet, but I'm guessing it will be at least $2,000 based on my research. I will also add this information as we go.

The first weeks of his recovery will be the most care intensive and I'll be taking a little time off work to support him which will reduce our income for that period of time. Plus we'll be needing some extra supplies to accommodate his new needs.

Kylo is an incredibly important part of my life. He is a source of reliability and consistency with his greetings when I come home and his head tilts when I talk to him. He helps me regulate when I'm overwhelmed or overstimulated and gives me a routine to follow. These are all so important for my AuDHD brain (ASD+ADHD). He gives me so much and I want to do right by him and make sure he gets the best care in order to fully heal and be able to be his active and playful self.

Thank you for reading all the way through and we appreciate whatever support you can offer. Please share and donate if you can!
