I am reaching out to share my sister Kristin's journey and ask for your help in supporting her during this incredibly challenging time. In December, Kristin was diagnosed with breast cancer, and since then, she has been fighting with an amazing amount of strength and grace. Immediately after her diagnosis, she started treatment, and her battle continues as the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes, second breast, and spinal cord.
Kristin is undergoing an intense regimen of chemotherapy and has already completed one round of radiation. To receive treatment, she has been traveling five hours each way to Anchorage multiple times a month. The financial burden of travel, lodging, and medical expenses has already been overwhelming for Kristin and her husband, Kyle.
In a few weeks, Kristin will receive her final round of chemotherapy, after which she will have some recovery time before surgery at the end of May. The surgery will also take place in Anchorage, and the doctors have required that she stay there for a week following the procedure. The cost of lodging in Anchorage will add up quickly for her and Kyle, on top of the already substantial financial strain they've been managing.
Looking ahead to this summer, Kristin will need to receive 4-5 weeks of radiation in Soldotna, about two hours from her home. Unfortunately, these treatments coincide with peak tourist season in Alaska, where lodging prices are exceptionally high.
Throughout all of this, Kristin has maintained a positive attitude, following the example set by her mom. She has approached each challenge with a smile, determined to fight and remain strong for her husband, Kyle, and their boys. Their unwavering support for her has been nothing short of incredible, but the financial strain is starting to take a toll on them.
Kristin is the type of person who would never ask for financial help, but I am doing so on her behalf because no one should have to face this battle alone. If you're able to donate, any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly to helping Kristin and Kyle with the costs of travel, lodging, and medical expenses during this incredibly difficult time.
Your encouragement and prayers are also welcome. Please reach out to me personally if you want an address to send a card.
