Help Support Kirk Wornum for 1 year

Story

My name is Sonia Sin, an American living in The Netherlands for the past 30+ years. As progressive as this country is, living in The Netherlands can be tough. It's daily culture shock and navigating the abstract waters of culture differences can be confusing.  So when you find a super cool American who is a compass through LIFE,  you hit the jackpot - and ironically enough my Dutch husband Frans Schrofer and I met Kirk Wornum on Thanksgiving and we immediately became good friends!!!On 15th April 2018,  our dear vibrant, energic friend,  life/career coach to many, was unexpected admitted to the hospital. The right side of his body was lame, his face semi-paralyzed, his speech impaired. It was diagnosed in a couple days later that he suffered from an acute immune disease called Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS).  Kirk was hospitalised for 2 weeks and then began immediate speech, physical, neurological therapy. This exhausts him. GBS has a strange effect that any kind of stress will destroy any progress made. We are now 8 weeks from his hospitalisation, and although he has made some recovery (he can now walk slowly, climb stairs, and has eye control and 40% of his facial muscles have returned, he has lost 10 kilos=20 pounds), doctors at Westeinde Hospital in The Hague informed him yesterday that he will need a YEAR to recover. Kirk is self-employed. Speech is his tool. Speech is the last function to fully recover with this disease.  As a coach, his words and incredible sense of humor has helped so many of us see our lives more clearly and improve ourselves.  He has always been there with his wisdom, insights, and visions of enlightenment.  He didn't deserve this illness. Kirk is modest, so much so that he doesn't want to ask financial help from anyone. He had just moved into a new apartment in the center of The Hague and now will have serious difficulty paying rent, insurances, food and utilities. The idea that his inability to work will force him out of his home, is tremendously stressing him out - which could now seriously block his recovery!!!Happily enough he has a lot of friends who have acted as chauffeurs, cooks, food delivery, household help, etc. to make it easier for him. More help is always welcome.  However, this doesn't address his basic living expenses. His recovery has to be stress free. This fund will hopefully cover 12 months of his expenses as mentioned above. We estimate to cover one year of Kirk's expenses he will need €25,000 as soon as possible to create a "peace of mind" so he can fully focus on recovering. We hope his friends, colleagues and beloved family can all support him morally and financially with their generosity.Thanking you in advance for your kind consideration, generosity and loving support.
