Support for Kevin Chapman's Family
Donation protected
First and foremost, Kevin is a family man. He devotes his life to his kids (ages 4, 7 and 14) and his wife, Valencia. He works hard as a electrician with his father, Earle Chapman, at Earle's Low Cost Electric, so that he can provide for his family and spend his off hours together with those he loves.
The pace of his regular life changed this February. The pace of most of our lives changes this past February/March, but for him it was different. He was experiencing pain on the left side of his face near his jaw. He went to the doctor and was told that it was likely a muscle issue, and not to worry. Kevin is only 37, so he did not suspect anything too serious. Well, that pain did not cease and something was getting more and more swollen. He was sent to the dentist and various doctors. No one was able to figure out what was going on. Finally in late October, that pain was diagnosed as aggressive cancer in his salivary gland that had spread into his jaw cancer. The cancer had spread fast, and on Monday, November 30th he had the left side of his jaw and the gland removed. The doctors removed part of his leg bone to rebuild that side of his jaw, leaving him with titanium rods in his leg.
Kevin was released from the hospital on December 5th. They did not want to keep him there any longer than absolutely necessary, due to the risk of COVID exposure. His jaw is wired shut as the bones need to grow and heal back together, so he will need to be fed via a tube for several months. He will need extensive dental work to put in implants on that side of his jaw. When they remove your jaw, the teeth go with it! He has tubes and IV lines coming out every which way. Walking, even with crutches is very challenging, due to the pain in his leg. He requires full-time care and his cancer treatments will continue for quite some time. It will be at least April before he can consider going back to work.
With three kids and a husband to care for, it is not an option for Valencia to leave the house to work, especially given the risk of COVID exposure. Kevin has a loving and supportive family, but they can only do so much. The medical bills will continue coming, and monthly bills don't stop either.
Please consider helping in any way that you can. No donation is too small.
THANK YOU!
