Ken Gibbs & His Fight Against Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Donation protected
Dear family, friends, and kind strangers,

My name is Dario, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my good friend and brother, Ken Gibbs. Ken has been battling Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) since 2009, and unfortunately, his condition has now reached Stage 4. Over the years, he has undergone two rounds of treatment, each lasting three years. However, in the fall of 2023, Ken faced the toughest fight of his life when his pill treatment stopped working, and he found himself in the Cross Cancer Hospital for almost three months.

Despite the difficult battle, Ken pulled through. He is now on a new pill treatment, which his oncologists say is his final treatment option. This medication will help keep the cancer at bay for as long as it works. However, once the treatment stops being effective, there will be no further options available. While a stem cell transplant is an alternative, it has a very low success rate and is therefore not a viable option for Ken.

Unfortunately, Ken was unable to work for most of 2024 due to his hospitalization, recovery, and the ongoing treatment process, creating a significant financial burden for him and his wife, Ann.

In September 2024, just as Ken began to regain his strength and return to work, he faced another setback. He contracted pneumonia, which led to hospitalization, followed by COVID-19 and a surgery. Ken’s immune system is severely compromised, so even the slightest infection can be life-threatening.

Anyone who knows Ken understands that he has a heart of gold. Whether you’ve met him in the Edmonton biking community or simply crossed paths, you know he is someone who spreads joy, is always there to lend a hand, and would give the shirt off his back to help a friend. He’s also known for riding his gold and black trike, Bella, with the Goofy mascot on the back—a true symbol of his spirited and kind nature.

Ken’s passion for motorcycles is also a big part of who he is. He’s been a proud member of the Latin American Motorcycle Association (LAMA) Edmonton Chapter, a group that shares a love for motorcycles and community. Riding has always been an important part of Ken’s life, and it’s something he continues to cherish deeply. His connection to LAMA and his fellow motorcyclists has provided him with a sense of camaraderie and joy, and it’s a source of strength as he faces his current battle.

As Ken continues his fight against CLL, we are coming together to ease the financial strain he and Ann are facing. Your generous contributions, no matter how small, will help alleviate the financial burden of his medical costs, lost income, and ongoing expenses as he continues his treatment. Your support will also provide much-needed assistance if any setbacks occur along the way.

Please consider donating and sharing this fundraiser within your network. Your kindness, support, and donations will mean the world to Ken and his family, and will make a difference as he continues to battle this disease.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and compassion.
