In February 2021, Kelsey found a lump on her breast that didn't seem normal; we decided it would be best to make a doctor's visit to see what was causing it. When the doctor initially examined this, no one thought much of it, but they ordered a biopsy to be done just to be sure. When the results came back, we were devastated to hear that Kelsey, at 24 years old, was diagnosed with Ductal Breast Cancer (Invasive breast carcinoma, no special type (ductal), grade 2). We had no clue what to expect or how to deal with it, but she stayed strong and pushed on!
She was quickly put on the books for a surgery consultation where we were given an extensive range of options for treatments with varying degrees of reliability and survivability. At the end of the day, with her doctor's guidance, Kelsey made the extremely difficult decision that the best option would be to undergo a full mastectomy of the right breast. We were quickly scheduled for surgery, and everything was started before we even knew what was happening.
After the Mastectomy, all we could do was wait, while Kelsey was undoubtedly stressed and wondering what would happen next. The doctors had removed all breast tissue and one lymph node and sent everything off for testing. A 3.2 cm tumor was removed and tested as well. These tests took about two weeks, and they discovered that the cancer had metastasized (spread) to the lymphatic system. Due to this, it was decided that they should hit her body and the cancer hard and fast.
She was scheduled with an oncology team and has now begun Chemotherapy treatment that will be followed by radiation treatment in the hopes of removing all cancer from her body. Her first day of chemo was Thursday, May 6th, and she has to go in alone due to COVID-19.
This donation fund is to help with the transportation and co-pay costs for appointments, medication, and chemotherapy this poor young woman has to have on top of the stress she is enduring going through this at such a young age of 24 years old. Please help Kelsey and her husband with this by donating whatever you feel comfortable with or by sharing this with everyone who may be able to help. This will remove a lot of stress from her mind and life, which is much needed!
We thank you so much for even reading this and especially for donating and sharing this fund for us!❤️ We understand not everyone is able to donate and would like to ask that you keep us in your thoughts as Kelsey moves forward through this challenging time in her life.
