Help & Support Katya to get empowered through her education!

Hi, I am Katya and I’m 18. I was born and raised in Kyiv, Ukraine, into a loving family of 5. Since I was 9, I have been dreaming about studying in the United States. With the huge support of my parents, who were never rich, but did everything to give me what I needed, I made it to an international high school in Ukraine.

✈️My freshman year, in 2022, a full-scale war struck Ukraine. Unfortunately, we had to evacuate and flee. My school had closed down but my American dream didn't go away. With combined efforts, I was sent to Texas and graduated high school in May of 2025! I was accepted and committed to the University of Oregon to major with a BS in Psychology. However, the excitement for a better future has been postponed due to financial stress. I have received a decent scholarship but I need to show the office of admissions that I can pay my tuition in full, which my family and I cannot. To fill the gap, I need $18,000. All of the funds will be paid to the University to cover the tuition.

Due to the war in Ukraine, my family and I have faced difficulties in achieving my educational goals. As an international student, I haven't had an opportunity to work and earn money for college and my parents do not have the financial stability or income to fully sponsor my college education as they remain in Ukraine. I want and seek a better education and believe that with the financial support provided, I will be able to contribute a lot to the world with the knowledge I can receive through gaining a higher education diploma.

‍‍‍‍Good education and good jobs are a privilege that people often do not grasp because it is easier for them to access. However, I have endless gratefulness for having an opportunity to not only learn about psychology and understand human minds, but I also have a privilege to bring impact to the world by applying the concepts I have learned about. Having the power to analyze and understand the psychological impacts of life and circumstances on humans of different ages and genders will create a path for me to specialize in children's mental wellbeing. I would love to become a children's psychiatrist and help to identify and work through things that they or their parents are confused about for kids to have a successful life experience.

Exchanging cultural experiences and my spiritual values with those around me brings me joy. I believe that people should have the freedom to learn, read, and write intelligently and money should not be what defines how successful a future you can have.
