My name is Cat, I have created this fundraiser to graciously ask for your financial support while my wife Katie & I prepare to go through another grueling & challenging cancer rediagnosis.

Two years into remission, we gave thanks for all the clean CT scans (8 total) & bloodwork, even a clear CT scan in October of 2021, a celebratory milestone. However, about a year ago, Katie began to experience pain in her left side near her rib cage. After multiple trips to urgent care, more doctor visits, a chiropractic exam, acupuncture, bone scans, an MRI, various prescription medicines, sleepless nights, tears and chronic pain, it remained still undiagnosed.

 

We closed down our lil' pop-up restaurant Sunday, January 23rd & anxiously took the last ferry to the mainland to get Katie to urgent care, she was experiencing more pain than usual. That night, the doctor ordered a CT scan only to discover the source of her pain was coming from a mass on her chest wall. Patiently waiting nine days for a biopsy & 5 more days for results, we found out the mass is metastatic cancer.

Treatment for this rediagnosis will be different than what Katie has experienced before & will require a second opinion as surgery, treatment plans & pain management are critical factors for her road to recovery. She will start with radiation & proceed with six months of intensive chemotherapy.

 

a little about us

Chef Katie & I created a Pop-Up restaurant called Sunday Supper in January 2021 to be of service to the small community of Orcas Island during the second Covid-19 shutdown. We'd lived on the island for a year, laid off twice due to the pandemic, and felt deeply inspired to create a restaurant of our own. Together, we slowly grew our business. Katie & I both worked our respective full-time industry jobs on the island until she committed full-time to Sunday Supper last fall and myself in January. Every day open was busy, we fed a lot of people, made over 1,000 bowls of Pho! We are so proud to be cooking side by side.

As wives and business owners on the island, we are faced with a tough pill to swallow. Work, commuting & cancer treatment will be very difficult, our lives and livelihood are intertwined, this diagnosis affects every aspect of our being.
