On November 3rd, Juniper (also lovingly called June) experienced sudden back pain at school, which quickly progressed into full-body paralysis. She was rushed to Hope Children’s Hospital and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where she was diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a rare inflammatory condition of the spinal cord that only about 1,400 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with each year.

Thanks to the incredible care of her medical team and June’s own courage, she began making progress. On November 24th, she moved out of the PICU, and the next day, she was transferred to Shriners Children’s Hospital for intensive inpatient rehabilitation. Juniper has been working hard every day, showing resilience and determination that inspires everyone around her.

Later this month, Juniper will be returning home for the holidays - a huge milestone! While her journey continues with Monday–Friday outpatient rehab at Shriners, her family is excited to have her home and support her every step of the way. June’s Mom, Kara, will be her primary caregiver, ensuring she receives the care, encouragement, and love she needs to keep progressing.
