Help Julia Kim with Funeral and Hospital Expenses
Donation protected
On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, Peter Suyong Kim passed away from COVID-19 complications.
Raised in Koreatown, Peter was an Angeleno through and through. He loved tacos, burgers, and pizza; basketball and softball. He attended LA High (Class of '91) and served in the Santa Monica Police Department. Peter met the love of his life, Julia, in 2013 while serving in Love LA, a homeless ministry with Union Rescue Mission and Young Nak Church. Peter and Julia married in 2015 and their union continued to center around Christ and acts of service.
Peter exuded an accepting heart that welcomed all. He was real. Young men and youth were drawn to him by his humor and swag initially, but they would stay because Peter embraced them with his encouraging words, genuine kindness, and a power-house of quiet strength. Peter was the big brother every inner child longed for. He was the coach every struggling player sought out. He was the mentor and confidante who would listen, not judge, and only encourage. Peter was ready and willing to lend you an ear, lend you his last $20, and buy you a meal when you were down.
Peter was confident in his identity. Peter, which means “rock”, had a faith in Jesus Christ that was solid, weighty, and immovable. Each morning, he would thank God for another day and remind himself with his life motto: "I wear Christ in my heart and I hang my last name on my back" and roll out. "Make everyday count!"
Losing Peter has been devastating for Julia and those around him. As friends and family of Peter and Julia, we may feel helpless because there is nothing we can do to take the pain away. But thankfully, there is a real, meaningful way in which we can help with the sad business of death. The insurance company won’t cover all of the hospital costs, and the funeral expenses alone will be extremely costly. Would you please consider donating to help Julia in the long road ahead?
