Help Support Joy Coldiron in Her Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
My mom, Joy Coldiron, just turned 57, a Montana native and serving the Butte community for decades, has lived a life full of adventure, hard work, and love. However, she recently received the devastating news that she has extensive small cell carcinoma, a fast-spreading lung cancer, and while she is one of the strongest people I know, this journey is going to be a tough one. She is the definition of "Butte Tough" through and through, but she cannot fight this alone.

For 31 years, my mom worked at the Butte post office, showing up every day with dedication and grit until her well-earned retirement just a few months ago. Outside of work, she earned her pilot’s license—a true reflection of her adventurous spirit and determination. She was even the District 13 Search Coordinator with Search and Rescue at one time. She has always been successful in building a stable, independent life, but more than anything, she’s been a source of joy (literally) and inspiration to her family.

She’s now in her favorite role yet: being a grandma and finally retired! Nothing lights her up more than spending time with her grandkids. On top of that, she’s one of the biggest animal lovers you’ll ever meet—someone who has always opened her heart (and sometimes her home) to animals in need.

My dad has been her rock through all of this. Even while working full-time, he’s taking on extra responsibilities—between appointments, managing the household, and keeping everything moving—so that she can focus on her health. It's a lot for one person to carry, and I want to make sure they don't have to shoulder it alone.

As a nurse, I plan to help manage her healthcare and give her the emotional support she needs. I will be taking notes for her so she doesn't have to carry it all alone. As a daughter, I'm doing everything I can to make her feel better; she's my hero.

This diagnosis is not just emotionally heavy—it’s also financially draining. She is already getting calls from billing agencies asking for payment—something she definitely doesn't need with this new diagnosis. Even after years of careful planning for retirement, nobody could have guessed that she would have to manage the costs of treatment, travel, and time away from daily routines. My mom has always been someone who gave to others, and now it’s our turn to show up for her.

We’re asking for any help you can give to support her through treatment and recovery. Every donation, big or small, will go directly to easing the financial burden of her medical journey and allowing her to focus on what matters most: healing and being with her family. We also have a meal train set up - please consider if you are able. Link below.

If you’re unable to give, please consider sharing this page to help spread the word. We’re so grateful for your support, your prayers, and your love during this time.

Thank you for helping us lift up an amazing woman who has lifted up so many others.
