Hey Everyone! I developed a hip pain in May of 2024. After months of doctor's visits, imaging, and steroid injections, it was discovered I have Avascular Necrosis in my right hip and my femoral head has collapsed. I've been walking with pain for over a month now. Simple tasks such as putting on socks and getting in and out of bed are painful.
I am no longer able to go on hikes, or walk longer than 10 minutes at a time. I am using a cane to be able to walk. I am unable to lay in the floor and play with my 16 month old daughter nor can I hold her hand and walk alongside her.
I am scheduled for a total hip replacement on November 25, 2024.
I don't like asking for handouts or charity, but this year has been rough between this hip pain and losing my job in early February.
I have paid, out of pocket, for X-Rays, Steroid Injection into my hip socket, MRI, and multiple doctor visits as well as putting myself through at home PT.
After I was laid off, I was able to get myself and my daughter, Elowyn, on temporary Medicaid, but it ran out at the end of June. I was unable to afford private insurance, and no jobs are typically hiring someone who is already injured.
Doctor's bills have been mounting, and my out-of-pocket surgery cost is going to be around $7000. $2200 will go towards my surgeon and support staff costs. The remainder is for the hospital charges (supplies, room, etc). I plan to purchase all of my recovery equipment from Amazon.
I am currently a few weeks out from surgery. A pre-op is scheduled for November 11 and a follow up with my surgeon a week before surgery.
Even if you are unable to donate, sharing this page with friends and family could make a huge difference for us.
I am looking forward to having this surgery to get my life back. I want to be a good father and able to play with my daughter. To walk her through parking lots. To get back into hiking and photography. And pursue my career, pain and limp free.
