Hi, my name is Sasha van den Berg, and I’m a friend of the Littlechild family, as well as Nikki’s employer. With the family’s permission, I’ve started this GoFundMe to help support them through an incredibly difficult time.
These funds will go toward everyday expenses like travel to BC Children’s Hospital, bills, lost wages, upcoming snow removal, house cleaning, and anything else they may need.
Meet Blaze
Nikki and Jon Littlechild’s 12-year-old daughter, Blaze, has a rare genetic condition called Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). One of the major complications of NF1 is the development of tumors along nerve endings.
Currently, Blaze has four tumors that her team at BC Children’s Hospital is closely monitoring:
-One at the stem of her brain
-One along her spine
-One beneath her left clavicle
-One beneath her chest wall, which is causing the most concern
This last tumor has caused a bone deformity in her chest and is continuing to grow. Doctors are monitoring it carefully, as it’s now impacting her heart and left lung.
To slow the tumor growth, Blaze has been prescribed a MEK-inhibitor, a cancer treatment drug, which she’s been taking for several months. In the last year, the family has travelled to BC Children’s Hospital in October and December 2024, March, May, and August 2025, with another trip expected this December. These trips, emotionally and financially, have taken a heavy toll.
Nikki’s Health Battle
Nikki has been facing her own serious health challenges. She’s been off work since February 2025 due to a severe case of complicated diverticulitis, which led to a large abdominal abscess and a host of related complications.
Since February, Nikki has:
-Spent 10 nights in hospital
-Undergone 2 procedures, 2 MRIs, 7 CT scans, 2 ultrasounds, and had a drain for 5 weeks
-Taken 14 trips to Prince George Hospital
-Had 16 ER visits
-Been on long-term antibiotics
Recently, Nikki was told she will need major surgery on October 21. The surgery includes a bowel resection, ostomy, and removal of her left ovary. Due to internal scarring and damage, this is a high-risk procedure. A hysterectomy will also be required, but cannot be performed until six months later due to infection risk.
Her recovery from this first surgery is expected to take three months.
The Financial Impact
Due to these ongoing medical crises, Nikki has been unable to work since February. Jon, her husband, has used all of his available time off to support Nikki and Blaze through their hospital visits. This adds another layer of financial stress to an already overwhelming situation.
How can you help
This family is going through more than most of us could imagine. They've shown incredible strength, love and resilience, but they need our support now more than ever.
Every donation, big or small, will help lift some of the burden off the Littlechild family. Whether it's helping with gas for another hospital trip, covering lost wages, or simply making sure their driveway gets cleared of snow this season; it all matters.
Let's come together to show this beautiful family that they're not alone
Thank you for your kindness and support!
Sasha
