John Richard, a dedicated father of three and valued member of the LogoJET team, is facing one of the most challenging moments of his life.

John met his wife, Alexia, in August 2019, and their love story blossomed into marriage in March 2023. Together, they are raising three beautiful children: Madison (9), Bryson (8), and Kaison (3). Life was moving along like it does for many families—busy, full of love, and built on dreams for the future. Like many young families, they live life on a tight, paycheck-to-paycheck budget, building their future with love and determination. But in just a few short weeks, everything they’ve worked so hard for has been thrown into chaos.

Alexia’s Sudden Medical Emergency

Alexia had been experiencing severe headaches, but when those symptoms escalated to unbearable head pressure and violent vomiting, John rushed her to the hospital in Lafayette on September 9th.

There, doctors discovered she was suffering from obstructive hydrocephalus—a dangerous buildup of fluid on the brain. Before they could act, Alexia suffered a seizure and was rushed into emergency surgery to place a temporary brain drain that saved her life. The next day, she was airlifted to Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, where a team of specialists began working around the clock to save her life and restore her health.

A Long and Complex Battle

Since then, Alexia’s journey has been nothing short of grueling.

Sept 15 – Doctors performed brain surgery to remove a cyst in her third ventricle.

Sept 18 – Alexia developed a bacterial infection caused by the initial drains. She was rushed into another surgery to remove, clean, and replace them to prevent further complications.

Sept 22 – A third major surgery was needed to drain fluid from her neck and treat a Chiari malformation, a serious condition where brain tissue extends into the spinal canal.

Sept 26 – Alexia remains heavily sedated and on powerful, continuous antibiotics to fight the infection. She will remain in the hospital for at least another week, and only once she is fully stable and infection-free can she begin the next phase of recovery.

The road ahead will be long and uncertain. Doctors estimate a minimum of 6 weeks initial recovery at home, but full healing could take months or even a year. Alexia is showing signs of short-term memory loss, and her future care needs remain unknown.

While Alexia fights for her life, John is facing an impossible situation.

He is torn between being at Alexia’s bedside in New Orleans, making critical medical decisions and supporting his wife emotionally, and being home in Lafayette to care for their three children, get them to school, and continue working to keep the family afloat financially.

Tragically, while John was home briefly to take the kids to school and report to work, Alexia faced another emergency surgery. John was forced to make life-altering medical decisions over the phone, miles away from his wife, leaving him devastated and emotionally exhausted.

The physical and mental toll of these past few weeks has been overwhelming. John is barely sleeping, driving back and forth between cities, juggling childcare with limited support, and trying to maintain his job, all while carrying the weight of worry for his wife and children.
