***Update: Joey underwent surgery on Monday and it went fairly well, despite it being a bit more extensive than originally planned. He is now onto recovery. Unfortunately, they are really struggling to get his pain under control still as of tonight (wednesday) and he is quite miserable. He will remain in the hospital AT LEAST through the weekend. We ask that you please continue to keep this amazing family in your thoughts and prayers. This has been a rough, exhausting week both physically and emotionally for Joey, Kara and their entire family.***
*If anyone happens to have a nice comfy recliner (with a leaver or an electric one) they would be willing to donate to assist in Joeys recovery, please reach out to myself or Kara. One of the only ways Joey has been able to find any sense of comfort to rest so far has been to be sitting mostly upright in a recliner and they do not currently have one at home. This, among a few other thinhs will be items they will have to find a way to afford if we can not find one, further adding to their stress and financial strain. Thank you all for your continued support, prayers and donations!*
Hello everyone, I am Kara's life-long best friend, Brittany. I am reaching out today to ask for assistance for Joey, Kara and their three beautiful babies in a desperate time of need.
As many of you know, Joey has battled a heart condition his entire life. Unfortunately, the time has come that he is going to be undergoing a very extensive open-heart surgery. Which also very unfortunately means that Joey, the sole financial provider for the household, is going to be on medical leave for the next few months. Fortunately, Joey will qualify for paid medical leave- however, that will come with a SEVERE pay cut (about 70% of his base wages and NO overtime). As we all know, times are extremely tough and most of us are living paycheck to paycheck, with very little, if any savings. Due to the urgency of this surgery, Kara and Joey are going to be left scrambling to figure out how to cover not only their monthly bills to get by, but also extensive medical bills, despite having insurance. (Example- Just the ONE angiogram for his heart next week is already going to cost them over $2700 after insurance pays their part). Kara has been trying to get her cleaning business up and running and has been quite successful in doing so- however, she is going to have to cut back on cleanings for awhile to be by the love of her life's side through surgery and to care for him during his recovery. As again, this is a VERY extensive emergent surgery and recovery will take months, even if all goes perfectly and there are no complications.
This is clearly going to take a HUGE toll mentally, physically and financially on their family.
I'd love to help them to focus more on his recovery, and less on HOW they will survive it. So, I am asking for their village to rally behind them in these tough and uncertain times.
Anything helps- a donation, a share or even just a prayer (going to need A LOT of those) are so very appreciated! ❤️
