JODI'S JOURNEY CONT.. Surgery April 29th

Surgery update!

Just like that! Thelma and Louise gonzo!

It was an outpatient procedure, so I was home on Monday by about 2pm. Came home and had some Mac n’ Cheese and Ice Cream! YUM!

The procedure lasted for about 3 ½ hours and then about 1 ½ of coming out of A and discharging & then headed home for the start of my healing.

All help is appreciated – meals, rides, donations, prayers and texts as I continue on this healing journey.

Thank you in advance – nothing goes unappreciated as my journey continues. & DM me if you want to follow my blog to get more details about my procedure.

Cheers-
Jodi

Hi, my name is Stacy, and I’m fundraising on behalf of Jodi, my dear friend who is facing a challenging battle against breast cancer. Jodi was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer on July 24th, 2023, and is scheduled to undergo surgery this month as part of her treatment plan. The battle against breast cancer doesn't end with treatments. I've walked this road myself and know firsthand that the journey continues long after the doctors give you the all-clear. It's a journey of healing that extends beyond medical appointments and into the fabric of everyday life.

This diagnosis has required Jodi to take a leave from work to concentrate on her recovery and treatments. The subsequent loss of income, coupled with medical expenses, has placed a significant financial strain on her. Our aim is to raise funds to assist her during this period of inability to work, covering essential expenses such as pre and post-operative medical supplies, recovery care, insurance costs, and basic necessities.

Let’s come together to show Jodi that she is not alone in this fight. Your generosity and kindness will provide her with the peace of mind she needs to focus on her recovery and healing.

Thank you for considering a donation and for sharing this campaign with others who may be willing to help!

No life is without its share of challenges, and this page wouldn’t exist if not for a significant one. Jodi wrote a background of her diagnosis and treatments up to this point:

Jodi’s Journey with the Spanish Dancer, AKA CANCER

Up to this point, my journey From diagnosis on July 24, 2023, through April 2024

Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer [HER 2 + HORM-] & diagnosed on July 24th 2023

Beyond my left breast, the Spanish Dancer had metastasized to my brain, lungs, bones, lymph nodes, liver, left neck, bilateral axilla, and upper abdomen.

Treatments Included:

16 rounds of chemo and immunotherapy – every Friday for 3 months
Cyber radiation to my brain
& 8 shots of Xgeva for my bones

In November 2023, I was in remission– but still needed to continue with the immunotherapy and Xgeva shot every 3 weeks to keep the Spanish dancer at bay.

At that time I was getting stronger and starting to get back to feeling a bit more like myself, until February 2024, when tests showed I had an uptake (another word for more cancer) on my original left breast tumor spot, so now surgery for a bilateral mastectomy is scheduled for April 29th.

I am also currently dealing with chronic Lymphedema and the side effects of chemo. Thankfully, the rest of my body is still NED (no evidence of disease) thanks to the immunotherapy infusions that I will need to continue to take even after the mastectomy.

The best case for recovery from the mastectomy is 6-8 weeks, with no way to know how my Lymphedema will react to the surgery.

Throughout this treatment, I have had anywhere from 15 – 30 appointments a month – and all of out-of-pocket costs that insurance does not pay for – reminding myself I will be in treatment for the rest of my life… along with the expenses.

Since my original diagnosis, many organizations have helped me, but I have exhausted them for the year. A friend started a Meal Train in July, and it helped out so much, not only with meals but also with donations and the visits when people brought the food. It kept my spirits high and full of love, but now I need more help.

So - humbly, I am asking for your generous donation – the money will go to the following as I continue down this scary, uncertain, expensive, and very overwhelming disease.

Donations will contribute to the following:

Medical Co-payments
Medical out-of-pocket
Lymphedema products, such as compression sleeves and garments, are not covered.
Surgery home prep for post-op - recovery 4-8 weeks –pillows, clothes, comfort, etc.
After surgery, new clothes for change in breast - prosthetics
Getting life back up and running
Meals for caregiving and myself
Bills
Gas for appointments
Supplements
over-the-counter medicines and supplies to help manage treatment side effects
Complementary therapies – therapy, counseling, yoga, meditation, breath work etc.…
Special Dental Care
Most of the above will be ongoing for the rest of my life, being stage IV and my new normal.

Please consider supporting Jodi’s journey during this challenging time and the ongoing journey of life with cancer. Here are Jodi’s words, which provide a glimpse of hope through her experience that has now moved into the next phase of her journey.
