Help Support Jessica and Davi Almeida

My name is Amanda Snyder. I am Jessica’s younger sister, and I am reaching out on behalf of Jessica and Davi to ask for your support during an incredibly difficult time.

Recently, Davi’s mother, Aldenir passed away after suffering a heart attack while visiting Jess and Davi in Canada. Davi’s parents came to Canada from Brazil for the first time this summer to see Jess, Davi and their two young granddaughters. They spent a wonderful two and a half months together and gave support to their son and his family as they moved to Toronto for Davi to start his PhD.

Tragically, a few days before their return to Brazil, Davi’s mother, Aldenir, collapsed in the apartment and her heart stopped beating. Davi offered first aid to his mother until the paramedics arrived, and they were able to restart Aldenir’s heart and place her on life support. However, due to the lack of oxygen, she suffered a lot of damage to her brain and after 6 days in the hospital she was declared brain dead. On August 31st, the family went to the hospital to say goodbye to their mother, grandmother and wife, and Aldenir was taken off life support and passed away.

In addition to the tragedy of Aldenir’s passing, Davi’s parents did not have any medical insurance. This has been a great weight on the family. There is also the additional cost of purchasing plane tickets for the whole family to return to Brazil with Davi’s father, Rildo. They are waiting for Aldenir’s cremation and the necessary paperwork, and then the family will accompany Rildo back to Brazil where Jess and Davi will spend a few weeks organizing a memorial and helping Rildo get settled at home.

They do not yet know the full extent of the medical costs, but the hospital ICU has a rate between $6000 and $7000 per day. This is in addition to the costs of the exams and tests she went through while in the hospital.
