This is a fundraiser we never imagined we’d have to create.

Our family is absolutely heartbroken to share that Jesse Harris a son, brother, devoted husband, and loving father to three young children (ages 3, 6 and 9) has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 terminal cancer.

Jesse and his family have had their world turned upside down. Jesse met Katrina soon after graduating from high school, travelling with her overseas to pursue post-secondary education. Since then, their lives have been built around a shared love of learning, curiosity, and adventure, values they’ve lovingly passed on to their children. They’ve made family time a priority, with Katrina working just one day a week so they could focus fully on raising and educating their kids together.

Jesse is a hands-on father, from music, library groups to Tapiola and other homeschool activities he’s deeply involved in every part of his children’s lives. The kids are completely devoted to him. Even now, he never complains which is true to his character. It’s heartbreaking to watch someone so full of life face such a difficult journey.

Jesse has always been the first to lend a hand, to show up when someone else is in need. Now it’s our turn to show up for him.

What’s Happening Now

Jesse has started a palliative care plan, and the family is working to make their home more comfortable for what lies ahead. They’re also pursuing a medical review through the Mayo Clinic, holding on to every possible avenue for care and comfort.

Because of his diagnosis and symptoms, Jesse can no longer work, and the family’s income and benefits have been impacted. He is a committed teacher with the Lakehead District School Board Katrina is doing everything she can to keep their children’s lives stable and loving, while quietly managing a reality no parent, no partner, should ever have to face.

Why We’re Asking for Help

Many family members and friends have been asking how they can support Jesse and family during this devastating time. After much thought, we decided to create this GoFundMe to allow those who want to help whether emotionally, financially, or both to do so in one place.

We want to give Jesse, Katrina and the kids what they need most right now: time, peace, and the ability to be together without the constant worry of financial stress. It’s a priority to make every moment they have left count, and this will help support that wish.
