Help Support Jerrod’s Long Road to Recovery After a Devastating Farm Accident
On the evening of November 30, our beloved Jerrod was involved in a serious farm accident. He was first rushed by ambulance to Paynesville Hospital and then quickly airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis, where a trauma team was waiting. Miraculously, despite the severity of his injuries, Jerrod was awake, talking, and breathing on his own during the helicopter flight—a true sign of the fighter he is.
Emergency Surgeries and Critical Injuries
Immediately upon arrival, Jerrod was placed on a ventilator and taken into emergency surgery. Three surgical teams worked at once, focusing most urgently on:
- Severe pelvic damage
- A compromised femoral artery in his left leg
- Internal bleeding throughout his abdomen
Blood flow to Jerrod’s left leg had been absent for roughly five hours before surgeons were able to insert a temporary tube to restore circulation. He required five units of blood, repair of multiple internal lacerations, and removal of his spleen. His documented injuries include:
- A broken right humerus
- A shattered and separated pelvic bone on the left
- Seven broken ribs
- Facial trauma, with possible orbital bone injury
- Significant internal damage to the abdomen
- Bladder laceration
- Tissue swelling requiring fasciotomies in the left leg
Despite everything, Jerrod suffered no head or spinal injuries—a tremendous blessing.
December 1: A Grueling Day of Surgery
What doctors initially expected to be a three-hour surgery turned into nearly eight hours of continuous work. Jerrod was finally moved to his room around 6:45 p.m., where Nicole, Chris, and Becky were able to sit with him and hold his hand. After a long and overwhelming day, he was finally able to rest.
Our family felt every prayer, every message, and every ounce of support that day.
December 2: A Critical Nine-Hour Procedure With Major Progress
Jerrod faced another extensive day in the operating room—a nine-hour surgery made up of four back-to-back procedures. This time, surgeons were able to:
Restore Permanent Blood Flow
A vein was transplanted from his right leg to his left, replacing the temporary fix.
The angiogram now shows full, strong blood flow throughout the left leg, and doctors can finally hear a pulse at his ankle—something that wasn’t detectable before.
Internal Repairs
- His bladder laceration was repaired
- His bowels were checked and functioning normally
- Multiple internal lacerations were addressed
- A pin was placed to stabilize his left leg
Jerrod cannot yet wiggle the toes on his left foot, but with fasciotomies on both sides of the leg, doctors believe the pain and swelling may be limiting movement—not nerve damage.
He remains sedated and intubated, with plans to reassess sedation levels soon. A feeding tube is being placed to give his body the energy it needs for the enormous healing process ahead.
Surgery on his right leg will likely take place next week once his body is stronger. His broken arm is splinted for now, and a future surgery will place a plate.
Even through sedation, Jerrod has squeezed our hands and searched for us when asked—clear signs that he knows we’re there.
A Long Journey Ahead
Jerrod’s recovery will take months of hospitalization, multiple additional surgeries, rehabilitation, and long-term support. Nicole and their families are by his side every step of the way, but the emotional, physical, and financial toll on them is enormous.
This GoFundMe will help cover:
- Medical bills
- Travel costs and lodging for family
- Time away from work for Nicole and loved ones
- Rehabilitation, therapy, and future surgeries
- Long-term recovery support
