Help support Jen's emergency international medical expenses

Upon arrival on a vacation to Sayulita, Mexico, Jen immediately began to have stomach pains. After a visit to an urgent care and an at home/hotel doctor’s visit, Jen was rushed to an emergency room 30 minutes away at a small private hospital in Bucerias, Mexico. After a few tests and scans, she underwent emergency surgery for gastrointestinal perforation, which is a hole in the stomach wall that can leak stomach contents into the abdominal cavity. This led to peritonitis, an inflammation of the abdominal wall lining, as well as septic shock. Due to her critical condition, she was admitted to the ICU where she stayed intubated and in an induced coma for 2.5 days.

Her parents flew down immediately and were at the hospital the next day. Her friends also stayed by her side as long as their schedules allowed.

Jen has had two follow up surgical procedures to remove infectious fluid accumulating in her abdominal cavity. Some days she seems to take two steps forward and then the next day one step back. For example, today an IV vitamin injection resulted in a severe anaphylactic shock that required the ICU doctor’s attention. However, through this entire ordeal she has remarkably remained strong and in good spirits.

As of today, Jen has been in this hospital for 18 days. The hospital administration has made it known how much the bills are piling up. She is hopeful to be able to fly home soon where she will be admitted into a local hospital for continued care.

She does not find it easy to ask for help, but she has accepted that this is a unique situation and an unplanned need. We have let her know that this a way for the people who care about her to show their love and support.

During all of this unexpected trauma, she has continued to keep her sense of humor. She wanted it to be known that she has not even put her feet in the sand -except for some sand that her friend brought to the hospital. She didn’t even eat one taco and her only salt water experience has been from a saline drip. She is very appreciative of all the thoughts, prayers, and positive energy that has been sent her way.

Please consider a donation to help provide Jennifer with assistance to cover these unexpected international costs.
