Hello! My name is Katie and I am raising funds for my close friend Jenna Zhang in her battle against cancer.

In mid-May, Jenna was rushed to the ER due to a sudden expansion of the abdomen and severe swelling throughout her body. After being transported to a larger medical facility and several rounds of testing, she was given the devastating diagnosis of leukemia, in its most aggressive form.

She was immediately admitted into the oncology unit to begin chemotherapy. The treatments have not been without complications. Various infections have led to further treatments in addition to the aggressive chemotherapy her body continues to endure. After her second round of chemotherapy, her lab work and biopsies continue to show her neutrophils are not where they need to be.

Jenna is going to remain in the hospital for continued treatment as her team monitors her mutations and continue to assess the best form of treatment. There is currently no time frame for discharge. Her recovery is going to be extensive. Even after being discharged from this initial hospitalization, she will need to continue to undergo weekly outpatient follow-up with occasional short-term inpatient stays.

The doctors estimated that the treatment and recovery will require her to be out of work for about a year. She has exhausted all of her leave and has been using leave without pay under FMLA. FMLA will expire in the upcoming months and the future of her work remains uncertain.

Jenna is one of the kindest, most selfless people you’ll ever meet. She’s an incredible sister, daughter and friend. Through her brave fight, she continues to remain positive and continues to always think about others. She’s always been the type of person who always shows up for others but now she needs us to show up for her.
