Help support Ja'twon's recovery from the unimaginable.

On February 20th, 2024, Jennifer Reed received a call that is a parent's worst nightmare. Her son, 17-year-old Ja'twon, had suffered a brain aneurysm rupture and was being transported to Children's Hospital for emergency surgery. After two emergency surgeries to regulate the pressure in his head and a two-week hospital stay, Ja'twon was released. Scans never showed exactly what caused the rupture, so an angiogram was ordered for a few weeks down the road to give him time to heal so a good picture can be seen.

In the meantime, Ja'twon began speech, physical, vestibular, and occupational therapy to begin his road to gaining mobility due to losing his ability to walk, talk, and do simple tasks. After several weeks, Ja'twon managed to go from a wheelchair, to a claw cane, and then to a straight cane. He was able to hold regular conversations and even managed to take enough steps to walk the stage at his high school graduation!

Unfortunately, the angiogram time came, and showed that there was a mass of malformed blood vessels with another aneurysm formed in the center that could rupture again. The family and Ja'twon were distraught by the news and the new fear of another rupture swept over them. A 7-hour open brain surgery was scheduled to remove the malformed vessels and aneurysm.

On June 27th Ja'twon's surgery ended up being a 10-hour surgery and Ja'twon is currently recovering at home. He has taken a few backslides as far as functioning but is expected to improve with therapies. He woke struggling with double vision and hearing loss but we are praying that it all returns as his body heals from such a huge surgery.

After 4 1/2 months of this nightmare, and being a single mother, Jennifer has missed so much work due to hospital stays, appointments, therapies, and Ja'twon not being able to be left on his own. She has also accumulated multiple hospital bills for procedures not covered by insurance, and other expenses during hospital stays, needed items, medical equipment, and the bills at home that continue to pile up.

Although Jennifer is a proud woman and not one to have her hand out, this family is in need of some serious help!
Please help take some of the burden off this family so they can focus on Ja'twon's healing and progress.

Remember, every dollar counts, there is no amount too small, and even a share of this post is a blessing in itself. Let's work together to bring some peace of mind to this family. Sometimes it takes a village.
