A little over a year ago, Jamie began experiencing persistent shoulder pain. Life went on—he continued to work, care for his family, and push through the discomfort. But when the pain worsened, he finally went to the emergency room. What doctors discovered was far more serious than anyone imagined.

After extensive testing and two rounds of biopsies due to inconclusive pathology, Jamie was diagnosed with Stage 2B non-small cell lung cancer, an aggressive and advanced form of the disease. Surgery was performed to remove the left upper lobe of his lung along with surrounding lymph nodes, in hopes of stopping the spread. Unfortunately, the results were devastating.

Six of the biopsied lymph nodes tested positive for cancer, and doctors were unable to get clear margins—meaning cancer cells remain in his chest lining (visceral pleura). This means his battle is far from over. His cancer is now staged at Stage 3B non-small cell carcinoma. He now faces a long and difficult road ahead, including chemotherapy and radiation to try and contain this aggressive cancer.

Through it all, Jamie remains incredibly strong for his family. He is a devoted father to two small children, two adult children, and a proud grandfather. He’s the kind of man who puts everyone else first—and now it’s time for us to be there for him.
