Help support James and Rachel with cancer costs
Hey there. My name is Chay, and I am creating this gofundme to help raise money to help my dearest friend and her dad, an incredibly close and well loved father-daughter duo, James Burton, and Rachel with the costs of cancer care and lost wages. Earlier this week, James Burton was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma metastasized in his liver.
The money from this fundraiser will be going towards 3 main areas:
1st being home-care. This is something that is absolutely necessary, especially with James' level of mobility. It is also incredibly imperative that he have someone who he can trust coming to care for him due to trauma from sexual assault as a child.
The second item your donation will be going to will be accessibility accessories. James uses and walker and is sometimes wheelchair bound, and will be moving in to Rachel and her partner Dave's home. Their house is not accessible to James with his level of mobility. From stairs to the bathroom, they will need to make some expensive additions so that James is able to be comfortable and able to access areas of their home safely.
The final item that your donations will be going towards will be lost wages for Rachel. She is going to have to reduce her hours and even possibly leave work as a self employed residential cleaner for some time to care for her father and I don't want her to have to worry about how she will afford groceries and pay her bills. She has been helping James out a lot already over the past couple of years by getting him his groceries and taking him to all of his appointments. He had an emergency surgery in 2019 to try and help with nerve damage that went undiagnosed since 1997 that has been gradually getting worse, forcing him to rely on Rachel for any task that involves leaving his home. Anybody who knows Rachel know how much she adores James, they are as close as a father and daughter can get, from going to music festivals together, to sharing the same smile and sense of humour, to quoting all the same old songs and movies. I want to make sure that during this difficult time she is able to focus entirely on caring for her father, and not worrying about making ends meet.
So to end this write up, I would please ask you all to remember how kind, considerate, and helpful James has been to you, as he is to everyone in his life. If he has ever cooked you a special treat, bought you a drink on a night out, shared one of his brilliant and creative ideas with you, found out you had a problem and immediately sent you as many resources as he could find, or watched out to make sure the creepy guy at the bar/club/rave left you alone, please consider donating. All funds will be given directly to Rachel to use as needed for the three reasons listed above.
I truly could not imagine a person who deserves such hardship any less. I hope that such a vibrant and loved person can find all the support he needs in this difficult time.
Thank you.
